Counseling Groups for Young Women

Group Approach:

Group therapy is often the ideal form of therapy for college aged people. It is a powerful venue for growth and change. Not only do we receive tremendous understanding, support and encouragement from others facing similar issues, we also gain different perspectives, ideas and viewpoints on those issues in a safe and supportive place. New interpersonal interactions can provide group members an opportunity to experiment with new ideas and ways of being, deepen their level of self-awareness, learn how to more effectively relate to others, and feel more comfortable and in control.

Group Therapy Can Help You:

  • Discover that you're not alone in your struggles, thoughts, and feelings .

  • Learn from other people facing similar problems .

  • Gain multiple perspectives on your concerns.

  • Feel more connected to others as group cohesion develops.

  • Become more aware of yourself through genuine feedback from others.

  • Pick up new interpersonal skills that you can use in your daily life.

  • Internalize the lessons you've learned by helping others in the group.

  • Develop effective ways of building and maintaining relationships.

Topics addressed include self-esteem, relationships, family of origin, life roles, dealing with emotions, among many others. Groups are appropriate for addressing issues associated with:
